Bebo Blvd.and Surrounding Entertainment Supplement Texas Tailgating Scene

When Texas Longhorns Athletic Director Chris Del Conte arrived on 40 Acres in late 2017, the campus and surrounding area continued to undergo a series of changes, with the parking lot used for tailgates across the MLK undergoing major construction. It was lost by the project and eventually the Moody Center was occupied. Another important tailgating lot.

There are only four major tailgate lots as all construction is happening on and around campus. 37-39 east of LBJ on Red River Street and just north of the Irwin Center.

Red areas on the map are REVELxp spots.

Texas Athletics has once again teamed up with REVELxp (formerly Tailgate Guys) to give Longhorn fans a turnkey tailgate experience interested in reserving a tailgate spot on LBJ Loan! The only way to tailgate is in the red area of the gameday map (see tailgating section above). All his REVELxp hospitality packages are specially designed to host groups of all sizes on game day. Additional items can be added to the tailgate package.

For other fans, Del Conte and his staff dramatically changed the game day experience at Forty Acres in 2018. Bevo Blvd. is a carnival-like block he party that has stripped cars and added numerous vendors and other pre-game experiences.

Three hours before each home kickoff, the iconic mascot Bebo accompanies the parade into the stadium. Thirty minutes later, fans gather at the stadium’s stampede as the team enters the Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium. All the while, there are pre-game shows, interactive games, photo opportunities, autograph sessions with select Texas teams, live street art, and even a zip line.

Along DeLoss Dodds Way, Smokey’s Midway connects Bevo Blvd. Longhorn City Limits is available thanks to Midway Games featuring prizes, interactive attractions, and unique fair-style hoods such as a Ferris wheel, spinning games, and inflatable slides.

Four hours before game time, the Still Austin Music Lounge and Tito’s Tailgate will open on the LBJ lawn in front of Longhorn City Limits. The Still Austin Music Lounge offers a selection of merchandise plus snacks and shade, while Tito’s Tailgate offers live streaming of college football. Headlining his performers such as Charley Crockett and Flo Rida lead fans to kickoff. A quiet disco with multiple DJs also rounds out his day for fans looking to find their own atmosphere after the game.

So, even with the loss of a key tailgate location, Longhorns fans have more options than ever in the stadium to make each game a memorable experience, no matter what happens on the field. I can.
